The British Numismatic Society was founded in 1903, and is a registered charity (No. 275906). The Society is established for the encouragement and promotion of numismatic science, particularly through the study of the coins, medals, tokens and banknotes of the peoples of the British Isles and Commonwealth, the United States of America, and all territories that at any time have been subject to British jurisdiction.

In total, the Society has more than 600 individual and institutional members world-wide, who include all levels of collector, academics, museum curators and dealers. Junior members are especially welcome. The society also publishes a range or Numismatic articles and has a huge back catalogue of journals.
